Texas Debrief

Taking a cue from Adam, who last week gave an overview of our time in AZ and NM, I wanted to take a moment to recap the highlights of our time in the Lone Star State. And as will soon be clear, we have a ton of related videos that’ll soon be posted. For now though, mere text and a few pics will have to suffice.

Tue. the 5th: We rolled into Amarillo (from Santa Fe), where Jason attempted to best the Big Texan and where we dropped off our first hitchhiker (King Crazy).

img_0207Wed. the 6th: Wichita Falls where we stopped at the Wichita Falls Athletic Club, owned and run by fellow libertarian Mark Rippatoe. We also hit a local ‘bucks (aka Starbucks) and cranked out some work.

Thur. the 7th:  Visited the Branch Davidian property on the outskirts of Waco. This was a stop I had wanted to make once I knew MHD was going to be a reality and I think the video will be really powerful. Then it was onto Austin, where, per the suggestion of a couple of friends I emailed infowars.com and told them we were in the area. An hour later we were in their office interviewing Jason Bermas.

sdc10534Then we found an regional park and jumped in the creek (until we saw a snake swimming beside us). That evening we spoke with the guys at Western Standard’s Hot Room. And despite the fact that we made it to Austin a bit earlier than scheduled our friend Rachel Davison was more than accommodating — allowing us access to her apartment, vehicle and sharp mind.

sdc10491Fri. the 8th: A work day, though later that night we did find time to head up to one of the UT, Austin campuses to help our bud Jacob Grier help celebrate his sister’s graduation.

100_0296Sat. the 9th: Breakfast/interview with David Guenthner from the Texas Public Policy Foundation after which we got some provisions at a nearby Wal-Mart then went to the the South Austin Freehold, where fellow Agorist Evan Pierce hosted our meetup. It’s no stretch of the truth to say that group that assembled there was awesome — really showcasing the breadth of the freedom movement. And it was there that we placed the 200 stickers donated by LibertyStickers.com on the walls of MARV. Later that night we chatted with Katie and Nancy, the hosts of Liberty Cafe, where we informed their audience about our trip, then left just before midnight and drove the 4hrs to Lake Jackson, TX.

img_0220Sun. the 10th: Interview Ron Paul the next morning in his home district (which went really well!) after which we headed north, captured some footage of us yelling at busts of a half-dozen former presidents next to the road, did some work for a bit at a ‘bucks just north of Houston, then joined Robert Mayer (who has an an-cap sticker proudly displayed on his car) and other personable and principled folks at the meetup he’d helped organize (a meetup I should note was titled “Gumbo, Guns & Guitars”). Then we caught the 10pm showing of Star Trek (thanks Rachel and Andrew!).

Mon. the 11th: We woke up in a Flying J’s truckstop just east of Houston and drove to Lake Charles, LA where I have family. I’m typing this from a ‘bucks in town and tonight we plan to get together with some of my fam for some good eats tonight.
Stay tuned for lots of awesome content! And thanks so much to everyone who made our time in Texas so damn awesome. Keep working with and learning from each other to advance the volutary society!

  1. Hey just heard you guys on the Liberty Conspiracy podcast with Gardner Goldsmith. I met Pete at the Liberty Forum 2009 this past March and I hope to see you guys at PorcFest. Also, if you want to swing by Rochester when you’re in the Northeast just let us know! We’ll ensure there’s a crowd of liberty-lovers (and I’m sure someone will let you in a gym!).
