Temporary Setback for MARV

{ Posted on Oct 23 2009 by Pete Eyre }

PORTLAND, OR – Last night just before I ran out of power on my MacBook I was able to publish this similarly-titled post to MHD’s Tumblr account:

… after a great day in/around Portland with Nick “Nicky The Heel” Puglia meeting area anarchists and seeing some beautiful waterfalls, we set off to drive an hour or two to position us closer to Yreka, CA (where we have an interview tomorrow scheduled with Brian from the State of Jefferson). Unfortunately MARV just died when we stopped at a stop sign at NE 29th St and Going Ave and it won’t re-start. AAA is en route so stayed tuned.

Background: In the first six months of ‘Searching for America’ AAA didn’t heard from us at all, but in the last couple of weeks this is the fourth time we’ve had to call. The first three times we needed just a jump but for some reason the problems are a bit worse today.

We’ll keep you posted!

Since that post here’s what happened:

  • Last night Norm from Gerlock Towing and Heavy Haul towed MARV from the intersection to a nearby open curb where we slept for the night. Our plan was for Norm or someone from Gerlock to return in the morning when there was more light (so the tow truck driver can see the rises/dips in the road as, with the front-end of MARV lifted, the rear didn’t have much clearance from the surface of the road.
  • This morning MARV started (surprise! – though only after using our “Emergency Start” button) and Norm followed us to the husband-and-wife owned-and-operated Blue Lake RV in nearby Troutdale, OR. We left MARV and were driven by to a nearby Starbucks where we now have virtually all of our electronics hooked up (as we’ve been without electrical outlets for a bit and have been filming a lot of great content recently) and are now working busily.

We should hear from the folks at Blue Lake RV soon. We’ll keep you posted…

  1. I sympathize. I had several RV troubles on my journey from Colorado to California and back. Fortunately, the repairs costs less than $120. I’m learning all the vehicles qwirks (still unnamed) so I can drive it to the 2010 liberty forum or porcfest.

  2. Hi Guys,
    Any chance of a stop in Southern Californa while on the West Coast? Lots of Liberty minded folks in the area.
    I would be glad to host a meetup at my place in Laguna Beach.

  3. @tom: MHD has to fly out of San Francisco on Nov 1st to North Carolina. We had intended to make it to San Diego and then Mexico but the Jones County Mississippi ordeal set us back. Hopefully we can meet up in the future!

  4. @Tom sorry we’ll be ending the Search for Freedom in America in San Fran. We then will fly out to North Carolina for a conference. Maybe on the next journey we’ll be able to make it to Southern Cali. Thanks for the interest though.

  5. @Gorbash: I’d like to see this RV of yours sometime. Hope you and your family have been having some fun with it.
