Portland Free Store
SUNNYVILLE, CA – Last week while on a tour of Portland with Nick and Will we came across the Free Store, which is a short bus converted into a store. It was actually put on our radar before our arrival but weren’t t sure we could fit it into our schedule. So we were quite surprised when we came across it nestled in the back corner of a parking lot on SE 11th & Clay. The scene around the Free Store is great, it’s a nice little neighborhood with local vendors (most operating out of trailers), free stuff and good food.
We were also lucky that Ben Aubin, founder/owner, was around to give us a tour and do a interview. As you will see in the video, Ben explains what brought him to Portland, why he turned a bus into a free store and how he makes money giving away free stuff. It’s a wonderful idea and very innovative, using bike messengers with an advertising base to draw income. We would like to thank Ben for taking the time to be on camera with us and wish the Free Store the best of luck.

Open Source “Stuff”. Nice.
Very nice. It’s encouraging to find anarch/voluntaryists who point out the difference between voluntaryism, and anarcho/socialism.
Charlotte, NC has had a Really Really Free Market, it also has a Free Store, and churches operate similar things throughout the state. Good on you Ben for getting this going up there, but it would still have been welcomed down here.
