SEATTLE, WA – While in Bozeman, Montana the crew of MHD was invited to attend a Campaign for Liberty / Young Americans for Liberty meeting at Montana State University that featured a speaker from the Concord Coalition.  As stated on the Concord Coalition’s website, their mission is as follows:

The Concord Coalition is dedicated to educating the public about the causes and consequences of federal budget deficits, the long-term challenges facing America’s unsustainable entitlement programs, and how to build a sound economy for future generations. The Concord Coalition’s national field staff and loyal group of volunteers cover the country, holding lectures, interactive exercises, conducting classes, giving media interviews, and briefing elected officials and their staffs.

I recall thinking that I was going to be in for a long night, of listening to statist solutions to statist problems. I was even more sure of it when the woman only offered the attendees options that involved more state meddling and we would then be allowed to vote on them. I shook my head and gave Pete and Jason a glance that screamed, WTF.

When the first round of ‘solutions’ were asked to the group I remember thinking that Pete, Jason or I were going to have to give the push back. Boy was I wrong, the first guy to be called on for discussion made a comment about whether Medicare and Social Security were even Constitutional to begin with. Quickly and repeatedly folks chimed in to voice their concerns against the Concord Coalition’s A or B options to solve so-called entitlement problems. Most went as far as to demand that government get out of their business/personal lives all together and that  it was their responsibility to provide for their family, friends, neighbors, community and the elderly, not the governments. It was refreshing to see people reject government violence, I mean “solutions” so openly. It was a pleasurable evening with these Montana residents and we hope you enjoy this video.
