Mark & Debbie Kuhn Tell of Deputy Breaking Into Their House for Upside-Down Flag
While MHD was in Asheville, NC for a meetup I had the pleasure of interviewing Mark and Debbie Kuhn. They were kind enough to invite me into their home which was broken into by a local sheriff. Why you ask? Because like many people these days, Mark and Debbie Kuhn feel that the government is a threat to their liberties.
They’re active Ron Paul supporters and a couple of years ago hung their Untied States flag upside down. This is considered a sign of distress according to Flag Code 8.a and states that:
The flag should never be displayed with the union down, except as a signal of dire distress in instances of extreme danger to life or property.
It is also seen as exercising your first amendment right of free speech.
Regardless of how you feel about the flag, this kind, loving and peaceful couple were treated as criminals after a man, who happens to carry a badge, illegally broke into and then chased them out of their own home. I thank them for having the courage to stand up for what they believe in and for sharing their story.

First mistake was talking to ANY cops at all.
Shooting a crazy man who breaks into your home seems perfectly logical to me as well.
This story sounds like something straight out of a totalitarian regime.
We talk big about freedom – “The Troops are fighting to protect our Rights and Freedoms”, etc. but we are very guarded- in many cases- when people want to take delivery on that freedom.
Our major political parties take turns in power, but a pro war/anti freedom agenda still seems to remain in place- partly because Americans have a fraudulent understanding of why we send “The Troops” and the flag to distant lands.
Mr. Kuhn is completely correct that nothing is going to happen until people turn their electronic tranquilizers OFF! (Talk about self-medicating…)
