A Hornet?

AMES, IOWA – After picking Pete up in Wichita, Kansas we headed north on I-35 toward Emporia, Kansas (photos & video). It was there where we we spotted the National Teachers Museum. We rolled up to a large building but under closer examination it was closed. A sign let us know that it had been relocated to Emporia State University. When we arrived at ESU to check it out at around 10AM the doors to the museum were locked with a sign that they would be back at 8AM, 2 hours ago. Despite this latest example of government ineptitude Pete weighed in on the prisons for kids some people call government schools:

On Tuesday, September 22nd the crew and I were guests on the Lives in the Balance Radio Show with Jason Littlejohn. After a lively conversation he took us on a tour of Lawrence and then to dinner at a Vietnamese Restaurant that also offered soul food. Jason was very gracious and even picked up the check (he also joined us at our Kansas City Meetup a few days later). The next night we met up with a half dozen radicals at the the Java Break, which I discovered was owned by a local libertarian. He thought our project was really cool. I thought his cupcakes were as well.

Check out our Evolutionaries project to see videos with many of the attendees sharing how they rejected government violence in favor of a voluntary society.

We drove to Olathe, Kansas (photos & videos) where we hung out with Brad Spangler the Director of the Center for a Stateless Society. Pete interviewed him so look for that interview soon, put here is a preview:

After hanging out with Brad we rolled to a nearby Starbucks to work until we heard that a packaged had arrived for us. It was some new Motorhome Diaries t-shirts (modeled below) by Xaq Fixx’s Fr33 Labs. In addition to the black shirts we have been selling on the road we now have some spiffy gold ones.

On Friday the 25th we had our Kansas City Meetup at the Legends Mall (photos & video). We actually showed up a day early and worked from the nearby Panera Bread. At the meetup we had the chance to meet the Grumbling Old Fart (aka Paul McBride) along with his wife. Not only did he help organize the event but he picked up the tab for the entire crew. here’s what he had to say on his blog:

I’m gonna come right out and say it… if i was 20 years younger and unmarried, I’d be begging to be on the RV known as MARV. It can’t be easy, but it has to be fun. Meeting all the people along the way must be awesome.

We first heard of Paul when he blogged about our incident with the Jones County Sheriff. It was such a good post that we republished it on our site.

MHD meetup

The night ended with Adam and Pete seeing the band, Faster than Hell play (photos and video). We met the lead singer Kriss Ward and his wife, and LOLA Calendar girl, Tracy Ward.

Last night the three of us crossed into Iowa making some noise thanks to the Black Eyed Peas:

  1. Compulsory education: Today, my child went to public school with full blown type A Flu. Because the wonderful Central Planners in Washington D.C., decided that no child can miss more than so many days of school, before being given an F for the entire school year, no matter how good their grades are.

  2. Right on Pete. We need to separate school and state. Educational anarchy is the only real way to learn and grow.
