I had just heard about the Free State Project (FSP) prior to my joining Motorhome Diaries. For those not familiar with the FSP, their mission is:

The Free State Project is an agreement among 20,000 pro-liberty activists to move to New Hampshire, where they will exert the fullest practical effort toward the creation of a society in which the maximum role of government is the protection of life, liberty, and property. The success of the Project would likely entail reductions in taxation and regulation, reforms at all levels of government, to expand individual rights and free markets, and a restoration of constitutional federalism, demonstrating the benefits of liberty to the rest of the nation and the world.

I liked the idea a lot but  still had questions, such as: how many people would actually make the move to New Hampshire?

Living in MARV with Jason and Pete has not only helped me become a better person but allows us a lot of time for conversation, and both have done a wonderful job relieving my doubts about the FPS’s mission.

Therefore, I would like to announce that today I signed up and committed moving to the Free State by the end of 2011. I feel that with all that is going on in NH it’s where I belong. So after my commitment on MHD is fulfilled I will head back home, to Wisconsin, for about a year. From the moment I step foot back in Wisconsin everything I do will be directed toward moving to NH.

I can’t wait for MHD to get up to NH (expected to be around June 21st) for PorcFest 09 (June 25-28), which will be a rockin’ good time. And we even have a session, thanks to organizer Surrealpolichick, where we plan to show some of our videos and have a conversation to solicit feedback and ideas from other freedom fighters.

I also want to say to all those activists and liberty minded individuals who are there now, THANKS! Keep fighting the good fight. I will see you in June, and if Sam Dodson is not out by then I think we all should plan a huge protest outside the jail. FREE SAM!

Sam talked to Pete while he was attending a well-attended FIJA (Fully Informed Jury Association) outreach event in front of the Cheshire, NH Courthouse and it show what a principled activist Sam is:

  1. Congrats Adam!

One thing I’ve learned (the FSP is my primary organization) doing my outreach is that, as much as people love the idea, that scepticism is hard to break though until you can start putting faces behind the movers.

I would LOVE to hear your specific objections, if not publicly then privately, and how Pete and Jason were able to ease your doubts about making the move.

  2. Good choice on joining the FSP, Adam. I move tomorrow and will be settling down in Concord. Good luck to you, Pete and Jason on your future excursions w/ MHD. See y’all @ P-fest.

  3. If Adam is friends with Jason and Pete then he must be a good guy because those guys are fantastic. Congratulations Adam, I look forward to meeting you at Porcfest!

  4. @Kevin Dean. My only real objections, cause when I heard of the FSP my first reaction was heck ya, were if it were really possible. Of course it all sounds great on paper or in words. But with my experiences in WI most people have no interest it challenging the system. Just conforming to it. (like video taping cops, not everyone is willing to do so, even though they talk about it)

With being in close quarters with Pete and Jason they have told me of the various activities going on throughout NH. Also, like you stated, living with them has allowed me to connect and get to know a few people in the area. So the faces with the place is/was a big factor. The only other questions I had were due to all my family being in Wis. and I am hoping to bring a few of them with me.
