The Ames Progressive

DRIVING WEST on I-90 – MN/SD – Last week after when in Ames, Iowa State University student David Olson (whom Jason and I knew via the formerly-anti-Statist organization for which we both worked) led MHD to 118 Hayward Ave., Suite 3 – the hq of the Ames Progressive. As we neared we heard loud instrumental music. When we walked in we were greeted by Nate Logsdon, one of the co-founders, for which the language on the organization’s About page states in part:

The Ames Progressive is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing independent media for Ames and supporting the local creative community.

In this video Nate details the founding and mission of the non-profit and details a bit about how they go about supporting others in their community.

While the Ames Progressive isn’t explicitly libertarian, it demonstrates the importance and viability of the civil society to voluntary support others as opposed to governmental agencies, which exist based on coercion and actively crowd out such voluntary institutions. For more on this check out David Beito’s From Mutual Aid to the Welfare State and our interview with Beito when we were in Alabama.

  1. Hey guys the video won’t show for me, it says it’s private.

  2. Sorry about that Ben. We had this post scheduled to go up this morn but were w/o Internet for most of the time as we drove west on I-90 toward Rapid City.

Hope you like it! Cool to see what everyone’s up to.
