About

The Motorhome Diaries is the story of three friends, Jason Talley, Pete Eyre & Adam Mueller, who took to the road in early 2009 to search for freedom in America in their motorhome they call MARV. Along the way they talk with the growing number of people who advocate a voluntary society – one where government violence is replaced by freedom and peace.

Driving from the urban jungles to picturesque small towns and everywhere in-between, they they cover the historic shift in power from individuals to the government and the growing movement of those who are fighting back to reclaim their freedom.

They consider their project to be a near real-time documentary since they will post quickly edited videos online so their trip can be viewed on MotorhomeDiaries.com. There, you can read their frequently posted content. Videos, photos and media will be posted rapid fire.

If you would like to support or meet up with Jason, Pete and Adam along the way, please e-mail them.

Here is a little bit about the crew:

Jason Talley:
Jason TalleyJason was born in Florida where he became more and more Republican during his stint in government schools and after graduation he joined the U.S. Air Force where he became a security policeman and an authoritarian prick. Embarrassingly he even ran for the city commission and started a Political Action Committee. Despite his state-loving, flag-waving past, he slowly rejected party politics and eventually government. Now Jason believes in a voluntary society, or one where governments don’t steal from people to pay for their violence.

He likes teh tech since it is the easiest, most effective way to connect with likeminded folks (he hangs out at places like twitter, facebook and fr33agents.net). He reports on news and views from the front lines of freedom at fr33agents.com.

Jason has committed his life to ending the control government has over his person and property and he thinks it would be cool if others were free also.

eyreheadshotPete Eyre:

Pete hails from the Midwest and though (or maybe because) he went to school for law enforcement he concluded that his comparative advantage could be better utilized working to change the system from the outside. He was fortunate to be given an intensive education in the ideas of liberty when selected to be an intern at the Cato Institute in Foreign Policy and Defense and later as a Koch Fellow through which he was placed at the Drug Policy Alliance (which addressed issues that first turned Pete onto the ideas of self-ownership).

He then worked at the Institute for Humane Studies for two and a half years, having last served as the director of the Campus Network after which he went on to take the Crasher-in-Chief position at Bureaucrash. Pete left that gig on April 1st of this year (no joke!) and dove into the Motorhome Diaries project as he felt it was the best opportunity he had to advance the freedom movement.

Grounded in the principles of natural rights and the Austrian School, Pete believes that individuals should be free to act so long as they do not initiate force against another. When not advancing liberty, he enjoys exercising, listening to metal, eating, people-watching, and reading.

He blogs at PeteEyre.com (in addition to Motorhome Diaries) and at Fr33 Agents. You can also connect with Pete at Facebook, Twitter, Anarch.me and Fr33Agents.net.

Adam Mueller

Adam Mueller

Adam was born and raised in Wisconsin. He worked mostly in the industries of construction and factory work. To tell his story we must start at the beginning. In late 2001 Adam was arrested for conspiracy to distribute marijuana. It was a challenging time in his life and not only cost him friends but many of his liberties. After cooperating with the criminal justice system he put that incident behind him and started rebuilding his life. Yet he learned that his punishment was far from over.

Over the next few years Adam ran into several Statist laws that prevented him from moving on with his life. Some of these being an attempt to get a liquor license, as a source to supplement his income. He also obtained his real estate license, which was then taken from him after some shady reporting by a local news source, which put the ax on his business plans with a friend to start a company. By this time Adam was strongly questioning why he has lost his right to vote, own firearms, and work in several industries.

Then came arrest number two. It happened after the local police department entered his home on an extremely loose search warrant found a small amount of marijuana. If this had been anyone else, besides a person with a prior felony, it would of been a misdemeanor offense. Instead Adam was taken to jail and charge with his second felony. This is when Adam lost all faith in the justice system. What crimes had really been committed? Where was the victim? And how much more could be taken from him?

It was while in jail for the second time that Adam had decided to simplify his life and live outside the system. He decided to sell his home, quit his job, and live as far under the radar as possible. His only goals and thoughts were to stay out of jail and away from the long arm of the law. Then came the housing bubble, bailouts, and corruption of just about every public official. In the last few years of the Bush Administration and the election of 2008 Adam began to educate and involve himself, which he did through various organizations and social networks. Within those outlets he now advocates self education and involvement, and hopes that with the experience and knowledge gained with MHD he will be more efficient in this quest.

M.A.R.V
marvThe Mobile Authority Resistance Vehicle (MARV) is the third full-time member of our crew. Not only is M.A.R.V. our mode of transportation, but he’s also our office and home. In late March Jason and Pete each paid half the cost of a 2000 Four Winds Hurricane. At that time MARV — powered by a Ford 5.8L V-10 — had 89K miles. How many thousands of miles and individuals will be visited by MARV and the MHD crew over the next year? Stay tuned.

Ryan Maddox

Ryan was born and raised in Anchorage Alaska, where he spent the majority of his life until recently, when he abruptly packed his things and moved to Keene NH. The move was largely influenced by his desire to attend the Porcupine Freedom Festival of 2009 and to become more active in the freedom movement with the intent of contributing to the development of a peaceful society.

Ryan discovered the ideas of freedom around age 16 through various observations about unaccountability, corruption, and coercion central to government functioning. Early experiences with educational authority led him to distrust those in power at a younger age, though realizations about the true nature of the State as a parasitic, involuntary, and unjustifiable institution came later on. These observations solidified during his high school experience, grasping that he like many others were coerced into a terrible routine of enslavement and indoctrination, with out his consent.

He began investigating libertarianism, and his understanding of the relevance of a voluntary alternative rapidly accelerated. By age 17, he was certain that Stateless freedom was optimal for human flourishing, and that reliance on the State system was suicidal and totally irrelevant.

When time permits, Ryan enjoys skateboarding on occasion, bicycling, reading blogs and forums, taking photos, and immersing him self the freedom movement. He likes electronic, hip hop, techno music and similar sounds. He infrequently watches shows such as House MD, Penn & Teller Bullshit, and Weeds. He prefers e-books over tangible books, and likes to learn about a variety of topics including counter-economics, anthropology, and technology.

You can find Ryan on Facebook, Twitter, Anarch.me, and Fr33 Agents.
